The thought of having the perfect wedding dress nearly always entails the wedding planning hassle, and the search can feel overwhelming. The options are limitless – from different styles and shapes to different fabrics and textures. We, at Kimberly, are here to guide you to an enjoyable, easy decision-making process to ensure your perfect wedding!

Before we delve into any details, there are few items to consider when choosing your wedding dress. Factors such as the style, the season, the time of the day, and the overall ambience of your wedding all play an important role in the decision-making process. Before we begin, we recommend having a simple idea of what you are looking for but remember our Golden Rule: the choice is always yours!

The first item to consider is the wedding dress shape. Many factors, including your personal style or your body type may affect your final decision, but do not shy away from experimenting. Always try different silhouettes to figure out what is the best fit for you.

Shapes:

  • A ballgown is a true princess-like dress. With its slim-cut bodice and voluminous full skirt, the shape brings attention to the natural waist and compliments most body types.
    • A traditional A-line dress is one of the most commonly worn dresses due to its flattering silhouette, balanced proportions, and luxurious look. The dress is fitted at the waist with gradually flared skirt resembling an ‘A’ shape.
    • A fitted A-line dress/Fit-and-flare, similarly to a traditional A-line dress, accentuates the waist but also adds some curves to the hips, an ideal shape for hourglass and petite body types. Its flair begins below the hips, a compromise between an A-line and a mermaid dress.
    • A mermaid dress is traditionally fitted to the knees with a flared skirt, creating a beautiful hourglass silhouette. Very flattering and sleek, though a restrictive dress.
    • A column/sheath is a very elegant and narrow dress shape, closely outlining the natural body shape. This dress compliments most body types, particularly petite brides due to its lengthening effect.
    • Other variations such as short dresses, separates, or jumpsuits are a fun and modern twist to the traditional wedding attire.

Here at Kimberly, we also provide an extensive variety of wedding dresses for your selection. At affordable prices with curated qualities, we provide wedding dresses to accentuate your perfect day. Once you have an idea of the shape you would prefer your dress to be, another important item is your choice of fabric. You want your dress to feel comfortable and be suitable for the weather, amongst many other factors.

Fabrics:

    • Satin is one of the most commonly used fabric due to its smooth finish and remarkable versatility. The thick and durable texture makes satin a component for ballgown dresses, particularly for winter weather weddings.
    • Charmeuse, a very luxurious and smooth fabric, is mainly used for column/sheath wedding dresses for the perfect, four-seasons material.
    • Chiffon is one of the thinnest, sometimes even transparent, fabrics used for wedding dresses with draping and layers. Chiffon is most suitable for spring and summer weddings.
    • Lace can be used for delicate detailing as well as for the entirety of the dress. Thanks to the diverse nature of the fabric, coming in all styles, patterns, and textures, it makes each dress unique and is suitable for all shapes.

The list goes on. Many new and non-traditional fabrics, such as velvet, are now commonly used for wedding dresses and it is up to you which one you feel most comfortable in!
