At Kimberly Wedding, we plan all of the logistics and preparation of your wedding, down to the smallest, personal detail. From choosing a venue, negotiating the best contracts for you, to ensuring day-of meals are exemplary. Our process is personal, tailored, and thorough, which means that you might be hearing quite a few terms being tossed about, as we consult and coordinate with you.

These terms can often be confusing or unknown, so let’s delve into a few of the lesser-known terms.

Venue Terms.

 Venue.

The most important term of all! The venue is your official location of where the reception will be held. Is your reception within a church? A castle? Perhaps, a vineyard? Regardless of the actual name, your venue is the commonplace term to refer to the reception site.

Uplighting.

These are lights that are specifically placed on the floor to line the perimeter of a room, namely the reception or ceremony. These lights create an ambience by lighting up walls with different colors or styles.

Gobo.

Weddings often have a piece of metal that is placed over a spotlight in order to shine a design on name onto a wall, floor, or ceiling. Gobos often include a special monogram or the newlywed’s married name to help emphasize the union and new beginnings.

Seating and Menus.

 Charger Plate.

A charger plate is a large plate that is typically placed underneath a dinner plate. These are used to help highlight a more cohesive theme or style, and they help to maintain a photogenic setting before and after dinner.

Sweetheart Table.

This is a table that is small, predominately in the front of the reception area, and designated for the newlywedded couple. These are excellent to create a decorated focal point for photographers, allow easier access to wish the happy couple their congratulations, and it is a place to breathe and relax for the newlyweds.

Specialty Table.

This is a table designated for special features of the wedding, including guest books, escort cards, the DJ table, or even a photobooth! The small details of your wedding are often found at these, and they can feature any unique, engaging activity for your guests to learn your story or to have even more fun.

Ceremony Terms.

 Prelude.

This is the special music that is played while guests are being seated and waiting for the ceremony to begin. The couple can choose any music that they would like, and it is often thought of as the ‘background music’ before the event begins.

Recessional

Following the conclusion of the ceremony, the wedding party will exit from the ceremony to help lead guests to the reception area. At the front of the party will be the newlywedded couple, who are often celebrated by guests lining the exit path.

 Grand Entrance and Exit

These are the two main times when the newlywedded couple will enter the wedding reception and leave. The Grand Entrance refers to the period following family and friend pictures alongside a short break, where the couple will enter the reception. The Grand Exit is often one marked by sparklers, flowers, or the special feature upon the couple’s official exit from their wedding reception.
